Willie Weatherford

Community Service

Willie Weatherford's community service record spans nearly four decades.

Weatherford is a retired Manteca police chief and was elected to the Manteca City Council in 1996. He was one of the founders of the Manteca Boys & Girls Club and is involved in the Manteca Noon Kiwanis, Manteca Prayer Breakfast, youth sporting organizations, and such activities as serving on the Manteca Manor senior housing board.

The 1961 Galt High graduate enlisted in the United States Air Force where he started his law enforcement career as an Air Policeman.

While stationed in Kansas he met Sherilyn Alwin. The two married on May 7, 1963. He was discharged in 1965. The following year, he was hired in Manteca as a rookie police officer and rose to the rank of captain by 1978.

In 1983, Weatherford was selected as Galt's police chief. The following year he took over the reins as city manager. During his tenure, Galt annexed 1,700 acres, helped establish a Boys & Girls Club and a softball complex.

Weatherford returned to Manteca in 1987 as police chief and held that position until his retirement in 1996.
